PROCOR, La Trinidad, Benguet: The Police Regional Office Cordillera awarded the five wounded policemen with the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting in recognition of their gallant stand against the heavily armed New People’s Army (NPA) in the recent ambush in their way to Malibcong town.

Chief Superintendent Elmer Francis Oco Sarona, PRO-COR Regional Director, personally awarded the wounded law enforcers with their medals while they were recovering from gunshot/shrapnel wounds at the Abra Provincial Hospital during his visit last Tuesday.         

The wounded policemen PO2 Jessie P. Trinidad, PO1 Marion Dela Paz, PO1 Gerome Baldos, PO1 Kennon Sanggoy, and PO1 Von Harold Layao who are all members of the Abra Provincial Public Safety Company, showed extra ordinary performance of duty which demonstrates well of their dedication and competence of providing security and protection to the people of the Cordillera.

On the other hand, RD Sarona personally provide medical cash assistance to them aside from their Php20,000.00 partial claims from the PSMBFI. The full payment from the PSMBFI will be given after they will be discharged from the hospital.

In coordination with AFP, hot pursuit operations against the fleeing rebels is being undertaken in all adjacent parts of Abra for the possible arrest of the suspects responsible in the ambush and harassment in Malibcong Abra.

Meanwhile, RD Sarona ordered all police regionwide to be on alert and initiate appropriate security preparations to prevent similar incident in their respective areas of jurisdiction and to guarantee the safety of the people in the remote villages. (PROCOR RPIO)
